Thomas Richard Meggs, 98, of Marshville, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 at his home.
Richard was born July 12, 1922 in Union County to the late Joseph Sandy Meggs and the late Jennie Belle Edwards Meggs. He was also preceded in death by sister, Mary Bessie Turner; and brother, Joseph Henry Meggs.
A one-of-a kind man of many words and stories to tell about his life is now reunited with his bride, Betty, in his heavenly home. He was a skilled gardener, spoke the truth (sometimes hard to hear), and loved his family beyond measure. He loved to read and watch westerns, especially Walker, Texas Ranger. He loved his church and church family, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was also a proud WWII veteran.
Thomas Richard Meggs will lie in state from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. John Miller. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery at 7002 Pleasant Hill Church Rd., Marshville.
Survivors include daughter, Vicky Baucom (Gerald) of Oakboro, NC; sons, Donald Meggs (Earlene Hartsell) of Monroe, NC, and James Walter Meggs (Emily Newsom) of Marshville, NC; grandchildren, Marla, Anthony, Phillip, Jason, Caleb, Chris, Rick, and Ben; 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Jennie Elizabeth Tarleton and Julia Lillie Sheppard; and special friend; Ronnie Little.
