Richard Alan Walker, age 53, of Monroe, passed away after a courageous battle with melanoma, on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center - Main in Charlotte.

Alan, born June 18, 1962 in Gainsville, Florida, was the son of Joseph D. Walker and the late Audrey F. Walker.

Alan was a loving husband and father with a heart for serving others. Outgoing and loyal, he loved being around other people, whether playing golf, volunteering or coordinating a project he believed in. An active church member and deacon, Alan's dedication and strong faith allowed him to minister to others even during his illness and pain. He was spiritually gifted with a positive attitude and a desire to help others even in the midst of his fight against cancer.

Alan was a successful business owner and held numerous community and business leadership roles, including past president of Metrolina Business Council, Stewardship chairman at Lakeview, and treasurer for NC House of Representative Dean Arp. Alan served on various other committees, serving where needed, because of his servant heart. He felt honored and privileged to care for his father, continuing to call him daily during his hospitalization.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Lakeview Baptist Church, 4602 Concord Hwy., Monroe, NC 28110. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Steve Jirgal, will follow at 4:00 PM in the church sanctuary. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Alan is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jeannie Anderson Walker of Monroe; son, Alex Walker of Monroe; Kevin (Rachel) Outen of Monroe who he considered to be a second son; father, Joseph D. Walker of Monroe; brothers, Kent (Vivian) Walker of Gainesville, FL and Danny (Peggy) Walker of Hillsboro, OH; sister, Sherry Walker of Big Stone Gap, VA; brother-in-law, Joey Anderson of Pine Mountain, GA; sisters-in-law, Patti (Fred) Pimentel of LaGrange, GA and Laura (Donald) Daniel of LaGrange, GA; and many nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks for the support, prayers and encouragement received during his illness.

To honor Alan's desire to serve others, memorials may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church, c/o Future Facilities Fund, 4602 Concord Hwy., Monroe NC 28110.
