Robert Henry Harbers, Jr. age 80 of 1008 Colonial Drive, Albemarle, NC 28001, passed away on March 20, 2010 at his home. Born in Staten Island, New York on August 06, 1929, he was the son of the late Robert Henry Harbers, Sr., and the late Anna Kretzer Harbers. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Eakins Harbers of the home; son, Robert Henry Harbers, III of Boca Raton, Fl.; daughters Kathleen Roberson of Greenville, NC, Joanne Williams of Durham, NC, Patricia Harbers of Charlotte, NC, Judith Wagner of Mooresville, NC, Elizabeth Martin of Gastonia, NC, Susan Staley of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Carol Harbers of Durham, NC, and Mary Lynn Casey of Apex, NC; 16 grandchildren,1 great grandchild, sisters, Margaret Johnson and husband Steven of Great Falls, VA. and Mary Ann Suriano and husband Rudy of Central, Utah. Robert attended Lafayette College in Pennsylvania on a basketball scholarship. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and received a degree in economics in 1951. He married Josephine Eakins in 1952 in Albemarle at Annunciation Catholic Church. He spent his entire career as a manufacturer’s agent in the children’s apparel industry. In 1978 he was honored with a “Million Dollar Club” award for outstanding sales performance by manufacturer Fishman and Tobin, Inc. He enjoyed playing basketball and spending time at the beach throughout most of his life. In later years, he enjoyed time with his 16 grandchildren, playing trucks with some, teaching poker to others. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle from 7 to 9 on Tuesday, March 23. At other times the family will meet at his home. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, March 24 at Annunciation Catholic Church where he was a member. Father Peter Fitzgibbons will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Annunciation Catholic Church, 416 N. Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
