Robert Lester Hill, Jr, 85 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Trinity Place in Albemarle.
Robert L. was born September 30, 1930 in Stanly County to the late Robert L. Hill, Sr. and Lucy Gladys Hatley Hill. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Dwight;one grandson, Richard Huneycutt; and two sons in law, Tony Bele and Mike Warwick.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Sunday at 1:00 pm at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Polkton officiated by Rev. Billy Hill and Elder Larry Austin. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery.
At all other times, the family will be gathering at the home of his son, R. Edward Hill, Oakboro.
Survivors include one son, R. Edward (Pat) Hill of Oakboro; five daughters, Lois Bele of Concord, Ellen (Mark) McCarter of Oakboro, Loraine (Keith) Huneycutt of Albemarle, Becky Warwick of Ansonville, Edith (Chris) Todd of Concord; two brothers, Lewis Hill of Savannah, GA, and Keith Hill of Oakboro; three sisters, Elaine Boatwright of Hartsville, SC, Carole Huffman of Effingham, SC, Judy Jackson of Eden, NC; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A lifelong member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Robert L. served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He served as state president for the Woodmen of the World and was a member of the Farm Bureau, Cattlemen's Association, the Republican party, the Stanly County Bee Keepers Association, and a state member of the ASCS. He attended both inaugurations for President Ronald Reagan and Governor Jim Holshouser. A lifetime farmer, he loved to travel to the mountains and beach, hunt in South Dakota, and camp.
