Robert "Bob" Cliff Hinkle, Jr. 88, of Badin, NC, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle. Bob Hinkle was born October 3, 1924 in Cliffside, NC, to the late Robert Cliff Hinkle, Sr. and the late Emma Ruth Hackney Hinkle The funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Badin Presbyterian Church at 3:00 pm. Rev. Dan Wray will officiate. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Perry Tilley Hinkle of the home; sons; Paul (Karen) Hinkle of Badin, NC, Perry (Elaine) Hinkle of Durham, NC, Mark (Rebecca) Hinkle of Lexington, NC, daughter, Nancy Ruth (Scott) Brouthers of Cary, NC, grandchildren, Ginny Gallina, Kathryn Hinkle, Lainie Huffman, Zoe Brouthers, Melody Clement, Chase Brouthers,and Will Hinkle, great grandchildren; Ali Capel, Maddy Gallina, and Braxton Elliott. Bob graduated from Lexington High School in 1941. Serving in the Army Air Corps, he earned the 2nd Lieutenant commission and Aerial Navigation Wings. Returning to NC State, he graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree. He and Kathryn were married in 1949. Working for Alcoa in Badin, NC for 34 years, he retired as Manager of Environmental Protection. From 1956 to 2006, Bob served as Scoutmaster of Troop 42 in Badin, earning Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver awards. He loved hiking and camping and was a life member of Appalachian Trail Conference. In addition to being a member of Badin Presbyterian Church, he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and also served as Elder and sometimes as Clerk of Session. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 776, Badin, NC 28009; Boy Scouts of America, Central North Carolina Council, PO Box 250, Albemarle, NC 28002; or the charity of the donor's choice.
