Robert L. Peck, 104 and 1/2, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, at home with family.
Robert was born December 28, 1919, in North Carolina to the late George Julius Peck, Sr. and the late Agnes Rose Peck. He was also preceded in death by wife of 71 years, Ruby Dixon Peck; infant daughter, Vickie Annette Peck; brothers, George Julius Peck, Jr. and Tommie Mellon Peck, and a sister, Mary Evans Peck Schiller.
Robert was a veteran of WWII and served under General Patton's 6th Armored Division known as "Super Sixth". He fought in five major European Campaign of WWII Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland, including the "Battle of the Bulge". The 6th Armored Division were also recognized for liberating the Buchenwald concentration camp in 1945.
He was owner and operator of Peck Painting Company, using his skills to paint First Lutheran Church and many other business as well as a lot of local homes in Albemarle . Robert enjoyed fishing, gardening and helping others. He could almost fix anything except electronics. His secret to his longevity was no worrying- live each day as if it was your last. And of course, he enjoyed a "glass or two" of Cheerwine in his later years.
He was a life time member of First Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and various other committees. .
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 10am-11am at First Lutheran Church of Albemarle in the fellowship hall. The funeral service will be at 11am on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor James Laurence. Burial will follow at the Fairview Memorial Park at 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle.
Those left to cherish his loving memories include; daughters, Melody Myers and Becky (David) Preslar; granddaughter, Amy (Stan) Shelton; grandsons, Matthew (Christen) Preslar, and Mason (Meredith) Preslar; great-grandsons, Grayson (Hannah) Shelton and Reese (Katie Paige) Shelton; great-granddaughter, Camille (Chasen) Parrish and future great-grandson, Noah Preslar.
