Roger Smith Efird, 79, of Oakboro, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at home surrounded by his wife and son.

Roger was born March 27, 1945, in North Carolina to the late Wilber Spurgeon Efird and the late Ila Belle Carpenter Efird.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Sybil McIntyre and Merle Boone; and brother, Wilber Efird.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 11:45 am, Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Oakboro United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow the visitation, officiated by Pastors Jake Herrin and Gene Moore.

Roger served in the United States Air Force between 1965 to 1969, during which time he was deployed to Italy as a Dispatcher. Following the military, he began a career in store fixture installation, working in major department stores like Belk and Macy’s. This career took him on jobs all over the United States giving him an opportunity to solidify the saying, “He never met a stranger”. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed the love of old cars and trucks, traveling to flea markets and car shows with friends. This included hanging out with his friends at their local garages to visit and talk.

Survivors include wife of 54 years, Ann Efird of Oakboro, NC; son, Michael Efird and wife Robin Efird of Princeton, WV; granddaughters, Sydni Efird and Saylor Efird of Murrells Inlet, SC; and step-granddaughter, Ella Bailey of Princeton, WV; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tillery Compassionate Care of Albemarle or to Oakboro United Methodist Church of Oakboro, NC. Roger’s family wants to recognize and give a special thanks to the loving nurses and caregivers of Tillery Compassionate Care; Deanna, Crystal and Sasha.
