Roger A, Swain, 87, of Harrisburg, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on April 14, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in 1937, Roger lived a full and vibrant life. A natural people person he spent most of his career in sales, where his outgoing personality and quick wit served him well. Earlier in life, he worked as a welder repairing dies at Ford Motor Company. He moved onto technical sales positions with Westinghouse Electric and Teledyne Mckay. In 1978 Roger held positions as National Sales Manager to Thyssen Specialty Steels and President of Thyssen Welding. He was a Life member of American Welding Society (AWS), A5 Technical Committee A5.01, A5.02, CH. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him to co-found EUROWELD with his business partner and friend, William (Bill) Newell. Roger was proud to work alongside his son, Steven Swain, and later his granddaughter, Emily Swain, in the company they built and grew together.

In the 1950’s, Roger lived with his family on a homestead in Homer, Alaska – a time that deeply shaped him. It was there that he developed a lifelong love of sourdough, a tradition he carried for decades. Roger became known in his family for sourdough pancakes, a beloved breakfast he lovingly prepared and shared throughout the years.

Roger had a deep love for classic westerns, especially those starring John Wayne. He could often be found enjoying these timeless films.

He is survived by his devoted wife, of 63 years, Laura L. Swain (nee Folgmann); is daughter, Shari S. Kinney (Paul); his son Steven O. Swain (Emma), and his grandchildren, Emily B. Swain, Jacob K. Swain (Sarah), Sean P. Kinney, Michael E. Kinney. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian K. Swain.

Roger will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, his hardworking nature, and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unforgettable stories.

A private family gathering will be held to honor his memory.
