Roscoe Griffin

January 29, 1933 — January 21, 2017

Roscoe Edward Griffin , 83 years of age, formerly of Concord, died in his sleep on Saturday, January 21, at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Advance, NC. Known as Roscoe to some and Ed to others, he moved to skilled nursing in 2010 following complications after surgery to implant Deep Brain Stimulation electrodes for treatment of benign essential tremor. Over time, and with help from clinicians and caregivers, Ed transformed his skilled nursing room to a beacon of comfort and support to others. His spirit was indefatigable.

Ed was born January 29, 1933 in Anson County to the late Roscoe Elijah Griffin and the late Georgia Kate Edwards. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Saundra Dianne Carpenter Griffin, in 2015.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at West Concord Baptist Church in Concord, NC. The funeral service will start at 3:00 pm officiated by pastor Mike Farley. Burial will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
Survivors include his daughter, Angie (Joe) Vincoli of Clemmons, NC; grandsons Chris (Lara) Vincoli of Greenville, SC and Walker Vincoli of Los Angeles, CA.

A gifted listener, Ed was a loyal husband, father, grandfather and friend. He served in the U.S. Army after graduating from Peachland High School. Orders for his unit to deploy to Korea were issued but then changed; his unit served stateside instead. Many unit members reconnected in later life and sustained each other with phone calls and visits.

Ed worked as part of the food distribution industry in the greater Charlotte area. Significant employers were Morton Frozen Foods, Biggers Brothers, Institution Food House and Orrells Food Service. In retirement, he delivered automotive parts in the Piedmont area for Hilbish Ford.

Memorials may be made to West Concord Baptist Church, where Ed served in many leadership capacities during the prime of life. Memorials may also be made to the Bermuda Commons Resident Fund to provide activities for residents. The family thanks all who ministered to the Griffin family, especially after Ed and Saundra moved from Concord.

Hartsell Funeral Home is serving Ed's family.
