Mrs. Rowena Love Brooks, 69, of Stanfield, passed away
August 4, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.
Born April 23, 1945 to Carl A. and Lucene N. Love, she had gracefully battled
Stage IV appendiceal cancer for nearly six years.
An avid reader, Rowena's love of learning and the printed word helped
guide her life's path. She was valedictorian of the first graduating
class of WSHS in 1963. She attended UNC Greensboro, where she majored
in Textiles and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1967. She touched many
lives as a teacher at Unionville Elementary, Norwood Elementary, and
Stanfield Elementary. After years of teaching, she returned to school
herself to begin a career as a graphic designer, and retired from
Central Piedmont Community College. She was a lifelong member of
Love's Grove United Methodist Church, where she was baptized, married,
and also taught Sunday School.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Roy (R.W.)
Brooks Jr, of the home; a daughter, Ashley J. Brooks (husband Kevin
Kitzman); son, Roy B. Brooks (wife Michelle); and two much-loved twin
grandchildren, Oliver Ward Brooks and Elsa Lucene Brooks, all of
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is also survived by a sister, Judy Talley
(husband Windell) of Stanfield; brother, Avery Love (wife Pat) of
Georgetown, SC; and mother-in-law, Mae W. Brooks of Oakboro.
