Roy Luther Hatley, 89 of 133 Piedmont Drive, Kannapolis, NC, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Tuesday, May 31 from 10 to 11AM. The funeral will follow at 11 AM in Hartsell Funeral Home's Chapel in Concord, with Rev. Robert Leonard officiating, and speakers, Maria Hyde and Kem Smith. The burial will be at West Concord Cemetery with military honors by the DAV. At other times the family will meet at the home. Mr. Hatley was born on January 6, 1922 in Cabarrus County to the late Edmund Hatley and the late Lula Mae Hatley Hatley. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Mainer Hatley; his daughter, Janet Diggs and husband Ralph of Charlotte; his son Roy (Eddie) Hatley of Concord; daughter, Dianne Hatley of Harrisburg; five grandchildren; Shane Diggs, Kelli Nordman, Natalie Hatley, Nathan Hatley and Nolan Hatley; four great grandchildren, Tyler, Sadie, Linus and Lilly; two stepsons, Doug Jarvis of Concord and Steve Jarvis and wife Sherri of Concord and two step grandchildren, Sabrina and Sawyer. He retired from Cannon Mills where he worked in the supply room. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was Sergeant First Class, Company E. 117th infantry in Fort Jackson, 1941. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, American Defense, American Campaign and French Braid.
