Roy Junior Mason, 89 years of age, of New London, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 at Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast in Concord.
Mr. Mason was born November 6, 1927 in Stanly County to the late Joseph Mason and the late Libby Wise Mason. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Barnes Mason; brothers. Hobart, Hubert, Herman, Joe, David, Bobby Mason; sister, Rosa Mae Woodle; and great granddaughter, Eris Mason.
Mr. Mason was in the Merchant Marines and the Navy, he served his country in World War II and the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged, Mr. Mason worked for the VA Hospital in Salisbury for 51 years. He was also the owner of Mason Tools in New London and Webb Road Flea Market in Salisbury. Roy was the President of the Woodmen of the World Camp 25 in Albemarle. And he was a member of the VFW and the Masonic Lodge.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Bethel United Methodist Church in New London officiated by Rev. Kevin McCormac and Rev. Boyd Joyce. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include son, Gordon Mason and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Dusty Mason and wife Lauren, and Allison Patrick and husband Thomas; great-grandchildren, Tyson and Emree Patrick, and Bex and McClure Mason; and brother, Walter Mason.
