Roy Olsen

Roy Sidney Olsen, 83, of Concord, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021 at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord.

Mr. Olsen was born March 14, 1938 in New York, NY to the late Hagbart Olsen and the late Randi Torsen Olsen.

Roy Olsen was a New York businessman who enjoyed a country club retirement in Concord N.C. with his wife of 37 years, the former Louise Flood.  His many business accomplishments included the founding of Olsen Brothers Tree Service, an over 50 year family legacy on Long Island N.Y.  It continues as a successful enterprise now run by his son, Eric.   Roy never had just one job or just one company.  He was the managing partner of Massapequa Lanes where he expanded business and created local jobs.  He also started a restaurant with two other sons, Todd and Kevin. It was a great success that launched Todd into culinary expertise and Kevin into a career of restaurant management.

Roy was well known by many for his capacity to help others. Outside of work, Roy was an avid sea captain and master diver with deep sea fishing boats that he operated out of his second home in the Virgin Islands.  Many enjoyed his writings on the subject of fishing, both in his articles in a local Long Island journal and the book he published.  Roy had his quirky moments when he and Louise would fly to New Port, Rhode Island for lunch or dinner with family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel.  The service will be webcast: https://video.ibm.com/channel/hartsell-funeral-home-concord

Survivors include wife, Louise Flood Olsen of Concord, NC, son Erik Olsen, daughter Laura Bondarchuk, step-sons Kevin and Todd Cliff, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends who loved him.
