Roy Alvin “Big Al†Poplin, age 68 of 41274 Parsonage Richfield, Richfield, North Carolina 28137, passed away on December 21, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast in Concord. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 pm, Thursday at Highland Baptist Church where he was a member. The Rev. Paul Crews and Rev. Mark Little will officiate. Visitation will follow the service at the church. Burial will be Friday 11:00 am at Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. At other times the family will meet at the home of April and Terry Kimrey, 46841 Wesley Chapel Road, Richfield, NC. Mr. Poplin was born in Stanly County on September 19, 1942, to the late Roy Clinton and Bessie Ernest Plowman Poplin. Mr. Poplin was also preceded in death by one brother, Calvin Wayne Poplin and one sister Peggy Stephenson. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for JF Carter, Inc. of Richfield and a member of the American Legion. He served in the US Air Force Military Police during the Vietnam conflict for a year and also served in Thailand. Mr. Roy Alvin Poplin is survived by his wife Martha Poplin of the home; two daughters, April Kimrey and husband Terry, Heather Poplin and companion De Nettles all of Richfield; one sister, Judy Roberts of Mt. Pleasant; and three grandchildren, Seth Kimrey, Adam Kimrey and Jada Poplin. Memorials may be made to the Highland Baptist Church Building Fund, 106 Highland Dr. New London, NC 28127 and Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 41238 Parsonage Road, Richfield, NC 28137-8635.
