Ruby Slocum

Ruby Lemley Slocum, 81, of Concord, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her children.

Ruby was born March 23, 1938 in New Hope, Alabama to Dency and Juliah Lemley. In addition to her parents and siblings, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Russell Slocum.

Ruby retired from Collins & Aikman in June 2000 after 20 years of service.  During retirement, Ruby enjoyed working outside, meeting up with friends for lunch, annual trips to Hilton Head and spending time with her family, friends and her grand dogs.  Her passing will leave a huge void in their lives.

Ruby is survived by her children, Patrick Slocum, Jonathan Slocum and wife Michelle, and Joanie Slocum; grandchildren, Zachery Slocum and Ashley Slocum; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Atrium Hospital Northeast, Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County and the countless friends and family members for their support over the last few weeks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081; the American Stroke Association; or the charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends on Thursday August 1st from 6-8pm at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord.  A private family burial will be held on a later date.
