Ruth Riley Pigg, 98 went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 16, 2013. She was born April 10, 1915 in Cornelius, North Carolina to Robert Holland Riley and Annie Fite Riley. In additon to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Earle Pigg and an infant son, Earle Riley Pigg as well as her six brothers and one sister. Ruth graduated from high school in Mount Holly, North Carolina in 1933 and went to work in Kannapolis for Cannon Mills where she met Earle and they were married in 1937. In 1942, she and Earle went to Baltimore where he worked in the shipyard during the war until 1946. In 1968 she attended CPCC and graduated as an LPN and worked in hospitals and nursing homes until she retired at the age of 65. After retirement, she travelled extensively with her sisters. She was an active member of Clear Creek Baptist Church all of her married life and a dedicated, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Surviving are her daughter, Teena Austin and husband Glenn of Roanoke; grandchildren, Jamie Austin and wife Carie also of Roanoke; Adrienne Sweeney and husband Keith of Lynchburg, VA.; five great grandchildren, Jay Austin, Kendal Austin, Jeremy Sweeney, Allie Sweeney, and Joshua Sweeney; sister, Catherine Upright of Charlotte and sister in law, Frances Riley. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Clear Creek Baptist Church 9015 Ferguson Road Charlotte, NC 28227. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Midland Chapel of Hartsell Funeral Home 13575 Broadway Avenue with Pastor Donald Lisk officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Pigg family with local arrangements.
