Ruth Teeter

Ruth Barbee Teeter, 93, of Albemarle, died Friday, February 19, at her home.
Born June 13, 1922, in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Welton Barbee and Emma Hatley Barbee and was a graduating member of the class of 1940 at Oakboro School. She was employed with Wiscassett Mills and later Stanly Knitting Mills before retiring in 1988.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday, February 22, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Dr. Wayne Bennett will be at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 17236 Frog Pond Road, Oakboro. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Teeter, Erik Lawhon, Trent Teeter, Cory Lawhon, Jay Shue, and Andy Childress.
At other times the family will be meeting at her home.
She was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and loved her Fellowship Sunday School Class. Ruth was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother to all. She enjoyed gardening and canning to share with family and friends. Ruth also quilted numerous beautiful quilts with her sisters.
The family wishes to express special thanks to special caregivers, Swift Smith, Sarah Lawhon, Nita Starnes, Ashley Martin, and Karen Paugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years L.B. Teeter , three brothers, MA Barbee, JT Barbee, and Billy Joe Barbee; and five sisters, Lela Barbee Whitley, Leola Barbee Smith, Nola Barbee Whitley, Geneva Barbee Eudy, and Gatha Barbee Whitley.
Ruth is survived by two sisters, Rella Barbee Huneycutt and Avinell Barbee Whitley. Also surviving are two sons, Nicky Teeter and wife, Brinda, and Phillip Teeter and wife, Sally; a daughter, Gail Teeter Lawhon and husband, Billy; nine grandchildren, Scott Teeter, Erik Lawhon, Jay Shue, Trent Teeter, Cory Lawhon, Natitia Teeter Paugh, Lacy Teeter Leonard, Kacy Teeter and Andy Childress; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Piano Fund, 17236 Frog Pond Road, Oakboro, NC 28129 or Hospice of Stanly County and the Uwharrie, 960 N. First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
