On Sept 17, 2010,Sadie Mae Benton Little passed from this life to be Heaven bound. Sadie was born August 22, 1917 in Union Co NC, the oldest daughter of Charles Clayton Benton and Telea Frances Simpson Benton. There were two more siblings, Hazel (1920) and Hessie (1923). After the widowed Telea remarried, a third sister, Billie Jane White, was born. On Oct 22, 1923, in Union County, Sadie married the love of her life, Carl Niven Little, son of Lemuel Leander Little & Rillie Rushing Little. Together they raised two daughters, Joyce Dean and Shirley Ann. Sadie Mae lived her entire life in Union County on the same homeplace that her husband, Carl, was raised. Sadie worked in the textile industry in Kannapolis and Monroe NC. At work, Sadie was well-known for her cakes to help celebrate fellow co-workers birthdays and other occasions. Equally famous with family were her Sunday mealsand her “stickiesâ€- a butter and sugar jelly roll treat. Predeceasing Sadie Mae were her husband of 67 yrs, Carl Little, (2000) her son-in-law Leamon U Williams (2000-Joyce), her sisters Hessie Cline (1996) and Hazel Rushing (2001), and her beloved daughters, Joyce Dean Williams (2002) and Shirley Ann Hamilton (2003). Sadie is survived by one sister, Billie Jane White Mitchell of Calabash, NC. Sadie Mae is survived by her grandchildren from Joyce Williams: Lorie W Moon, (Bryan) Greer SC; Kenneth L Williams, (Connie), Pensacola Beach, FL; Amy W Roberson (Clay), Lavonia GA, and Lisa W Manus (LaRue), Eastonolle GA. Sadie Mae is also survived by her grandchildren from Shirley Ann Hamilton: Todd Hamilton (Eunice), of Wake Forest, Tony Hamilton (Tammy) of Monroe, Tedd Hamilton of Monroe, and Tregg Hamilton (BJ), of Monroe. Sadie Mae lived to see 4 more generations of family added in her lifetime with the addition of 10 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 20, 6 – 8 p.m., at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. The funeral service will be Tuesday, 2:00, in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, Midland, officiated by her grandson, Todd Hamilton.
