Sadie Mcmillan

March 5, 1934 — December 16, 2019

Sadie Mae McMillan, 85, of Charlotte, took her last breath on Monday, December 16, 2019, the same date her Mother, Coreatha B. Payne, took her last breath, December 16, 1992.  What’s the odds of this happening, no coincidence here?  In addition to her mother, Sadie was also preceded in death by two sons, Rodney and Reginald.

Her birth name was Sadie M. Ransom, she was born on March 5, 1934.  She was born and raised in Bamberg, SC.  Sadie often bragged about being raised by her Grandparents, Jacob and Mary Ransom.  Sadie told numerous stories of her childhood and how blessed she was growing up as a child alongside many admirable Aunts and Uncles who helped steer her along the way.  She also admired her birth Mom, Coreatha B. Payne, who moved from the confines of the south to seek a more productive life in Richmond, Virginia.  Sadie would visit her Mom in Richmond, and just loved coming back to South Carolina as a child with the latest fashion, after shopping with her stylish Mom.

Sadie left Bamberg and found a whole new life in the “Big Apple” (New York City).  Sadie was Blessed with Seven children, Carolyn, Rodney, Reginald, Wanda, Yvette, Joyce, and Dennis. She said that she asked God for seven children and He honored her request.  Not only was Sadie blessed with seven children, she was also blessed with 20 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, and two Great, Great, Grandchildren.

She leaves to mourn five children, Carolyn, Wanda, Yvette, Joyce, and Dennis.  She also leaves behind two siblings, Harold, Mattie, and a dear Sister/Friend, Shirley Mintz.  Sadie loved life, people, and made new friends wherever she graced her presence.  She was a peoples-person, indeed, and enjoyed lending a helping hand when needed.

Sadie had many gifts and talents; she loved to write and cook.  Her writing was simply beautiful.  She was often asked and hired to address wedding invitations and hired to write for special events.  She was one of the best southern cooks in town.  Patti LaBelle can’t touch her sweet potato pie.  She loved having her family and friends over for breakfast or dinner quite often, to break bread together.

A note from her children:  "Mom, you will be missed, sorely.  Your kind heart, smile, laugh, and warm presence has been tattooed on our hearts forever.  We Love you!!!  Take your rest now Mom…"

Sadie will be missed here on earth, but our Heavenly Father had other plans for her…

2 Corinthians 5 New King James Version (NKJV)Assurance of the Resurrection
5 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, 3 if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. 4 For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 10:45 am, Saturday, December 21, 2019 at The Park Church, 6029 Beatties Ford Rd., Charlotte.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the church, officiated by Bishop Claude Richard Alexander, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Major McGuire, III.
