Samuel Mayer Leder, 51, of Concord, passed away unexpectedly from a cardiac event on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at his home in Concord.
Sam was a native of Whiteville, NC, where he lettered in football, basketball, and tennis, as well as mischief making and driving to Myrtle Beach (specifically The Spanish Galleon and Crazy Zack's) with good friends.
He proudly attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where he continued to build life-long friendships, as well as meet the love of his life, Shannon. He graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Masters of Accounting. In 1995, he joined Potter and Company, where he worked his way up from staff accountant to Managing Partner. He loved both his Potter and Company family and his clients, and was well-known for saying "What do you want first, the good news or the bad?" He also patented his world- famous filing system of piling paperwork all over his floor and desks.
His proudest accomplishments are his two sons, Matthew & Bennett, whom he proudly brain-washed as rabid Tar-Heel fans, with an undying disdain for Duke.
We are fully expecting Sun Drop stock prices to plummet, considering Sam's addiction kept their profit margins in the black. In addition, multiple wineries, Gianni's, LongHorn and Cracker Barrel will miss his frequent patronage as well.
Besides missing his laugh, his family and his friends (which includes everyone he ever met) will miss his hugs, his easy-going personality, and his presence. Fifty-one is half the age that we all hoped he would live to see.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. It will be officiated by Rev. Andrew Langford and Rabbi Andrew Ettin. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon, and their two sons, Matthew and Bennett; mother, Esther A. Scott; father, Robert B. Leder (wife, Linda); sister, Rachel Couchenour (husband, Brad); brother, Benjamin Leder; grandmother, Sarah Ackerman; and nephew, George Couchenour.
His community involvement was extensive, and something he was very proud of and sincerely honored to be a part of. They include Concord City Council, member and past president of Concord Rotary Club, member and former chair of Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Audit Committee and full board member of the Uwharrie Bank Executive Board, CHS NorthEast Hospital Advisory Board, Treasurer of the Academic Learning Center, Treasurer of the Ella Foard Foundation, Board member of the Central NC Boy Scouts Council, Past Board Member of Carolina International School, member of Temple Or Olam and Temple Israel of Salisbury, and active supporter of Concord High Athletics. He was also extremely proud of being an Eagle Scout.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to CVAN, Habitat for Humanity, Academic Learning Center or Meals On Wheels.
