Samuel Emory Thomas Jr., 71, of Concord, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Carolinas Healthcare System Northeast.
Sam was born February 11, 1947 to Samuel and Isabel Thomas in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his life he spent time in various professional and community roles including teaching math, coaching pee-wee football and serving as a Boy Scout leader.
He was an active member of the Connect Christian Church where he loved spending time with his church family. He also enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, traveling with his wife and will forever be a Georgia Dawg.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. He will later be laid to rest at Salisbury National Cemetery.
Sam will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Sue Thomas of Concord, NC; Son Adam Thomas and spouse Stephen of Philadelphia, PA; Granddaughter Edith Sophia Thomas of Philadelphia, PA; Sister Sarah “Sallie” Hovanec and husband James of Branden, MS, and Sister Robin Browning of FL; Niece Heather Ford and husband David of Wake Forest, NC; Nephew Brian Hovanec and wife Erin of Jackson, MS; and his Bonus Family including Daughter Elizabeth Jones and husband Todd of Concord, NC; and Grandchildren Andrew, Braden and Addisen Jones of Concord, NC.
Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Thomas family.
