Sandy Blair Carriker, 93, of Indian Trail, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at his home.
Mr. Carriker was born March 6, 1926 to the late Barney Sylvan and Minnie Ann Hinson Carriker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Vernie Greene Carriker; brother, Biven Carriker; sister, Marie Brooks; sister-in-law, Nel Honeycutt.
Mr. Carriker served his country in the US Army; enlisting after graduation from Fairview High School. After military service, Sandy came home and started a tire business in Charlotte. Soon.. he partnered with his brother, Biven to own and operate Carriker Brothers Tire for 34 years. Upon retirement, he continued work with his wife Vernie as poultry farmers for Tyson Foods. His work (though physical and long hours), was always third in line behind faith and family. He was an active member of Bentons Crossroads Baptist Church; serving as a Deacon and other roles for over 60 years. In recent years, he was a charter member of SF Keziah American Legion Post 535. He took great pride in the progress on new building development for veterans and the community.
To Sandy… Family, neighbors, or a customer came before his needs. Unselfish to a fault, he wanted peace and harmony among all. Never overbearing, but setting the example by his walk.
“Well done, good and faithful servant” Matthew 25:23
