Sarah Phifer Hargett of Albemarle passed away at Britthaven Healthcare, Albemarle, on May 9, 2010. She was born February 10, 1924 in Rowan County, to the late Jessie J. and Nannie Cranford Phifer. Mrs. Hargett was educated in Rowan County and Albemarle schools. She retired from American Efird Textiles in 1988 after working most of her life there. She also was a homemaker, as well as a good friend to many. She was a Charter, and faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Albemarle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry William Furr in July 1973, and second husband, Billy Wayne Hargett, December 2009. She was also preceded in death by five brothers J. Harry Phifer, Jacob J. Phifer, O. W. Donahue, Jr., Clarence Donahue, Doyle Donahue, and one sister; Louise Donahue Shaver. Survivors include one son, GaryW. Furr (Carla) of Ventnor City, N.J., two step children, Terry Hargett of Rio Rancho, NM, and Elaine Hargett Byers of Flintstone, GA, three step children (Tiffany, Daniel and Jeff). Four sisters survive, Jean P. Rary, Lexington, Doris D. Allen (Harold), Woodleaf, Ann Donahue, Salisbury and Dorothy D. Boysworth, Norwood, and a host of many loving nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1309 Old Charlotte Rd, Albemarle, NC 28001 in lieu of flowers. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 11, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 2:00p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. at Immanuel Baptist Church. Pastor Joe Smith officiating.
