Sarah Frances Poplin Plyler, 82, of 618 Fernwood Drive, Albemarle, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.
Sarah Frances was born in Stanly County on June 30,1932, daughter of the late Virgil Lee Poplin and Bertha Hatley Poplin. She was a graduate of Albemarle High School class of 1950 and Morgan’s Business College. She was employed with the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce as office manager for 45 years.
Sarah Frances was a dedicated member of Plyler Baptist Church where she served 60 years as pianist. She also served as church clerk for 20 years and as treasurer for 23 years, a position she vacated in 2011. Sarah Frances was faithful to the missions programs at Plyler Baptist and served as secretary of the WMU organization for 50 years. She also served on numerous church committees throughout the years.
Her hobbies included reading, playing the piano, working in her yard, doing word search puzzles, watching Hallmark movies and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed beach vacations with her family.
Sarah Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John Randall Plyler, in May of 2012. They were childhood sweethearts and were married on September 7, 1952. She is survived by her children Debra Plyler Turner and husband Frank of Albemarle and Randy Eugene Plyler and wife LilyAnn of Matthews. Grandchildren, Dana Paige Turner of Rural Hall and Mary Kate Turner Severin and husband Ben of Boone, were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Poplin Lander, of Shelby.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. A service to celebrate the life of Sarah Frances will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Plyler Baptist Church with Reverend Brian Franklin officiating. There will be a 30 minute state. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
