Scot Alexander Schaening

January 4, 2003 — March 14, 2024

Scot Alexander Schaening, 21, passed away on March 14th, 2024.

Born on January 4th, 2003, Scot inspired joy in loved ones and any one lucky enough to pass by to see his signature smile. He shared his light with the world for just over two decades, and now rests.

To anyone that met Scot, his obsession with motors, wheels and speed is as well known of a characteristic as his quiet demeanor, peaceful soul, and overflowing heart. From dirt biking behind “Grandad’s House” to the beginnings of a career in automotive, it is undeniable that he was happiest on an open road.

The genesis of this love may be harder to pin down for some, but it is very possible that it started on a May night in 2006 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. As a 3-year-old, Scot attended the world premier of Disney’s Cars alongside his great grandfather, grandfather, father and uncle. When Lightning McQueen whispered “I am Speed…” that blue eyed toddler in attendance seemed to take it as a challenge. He lived that mantra for the next 18 years and smiled all the way through.

Like his father, Scot was a man who lived in service of his friends and family. He would complete any task that you asked of him if he was capable. Great or small. His sense of humor made him the perfect friend to anyone that needed him to be, from any walk of life. His gentle manner allowed him to be an amazing cousin to a baby girl that grew up with him standing close by. His fierce loyalty to family made him into an ideal older brother, and protector. When it came to human connections, Scot excelled at it all.

Son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, doodle bug.

Scot is survived by his parents Melissa and David Schaening, and his sibling Matty, as well as his loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Scot was preceded in death by his Namaw Rebecca.

To celebrate Scot’s life the family will gather with friends and loved ones Sunday 3/24/24 at 4pm at Connect Christian Church (Concord, NC).

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Matty's scholarship fund.  Checks can be sent directly to David and Melissa or if preferred, directly to the bank. If the bank is preferred, please contact David or Melissa for the account information.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg is serving the Schaening family.
