On June 9, 1970, at the age of fifteen, Shannon came to a saving knowledge of Christ. His salvation was sealed and settled forever because it was solely based upon Christ’s divine righteousness and blood atonement for sin. At the age of sixteen, the Holy Spirit placed in his heart a desire to preach God’s Word. At the age of nineteen, he felt the Lord’s leading to attend Tennessee Temple University to further and prepare for a lifetime of ministry. He graduated in 1980 with a major in Bible and minor in psychology. In 1982, Shannon was ordained into the ministry. In 1986 he received his master’s degree in Christian School Administration from Pensacola Christian College. In May of 2024, Shannon received his Doctor of Philosophy in Theology degree from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary.
For the last 50 years of his life, Shannon spent laboring for the Lord. He loved his Lord and Savior, God’s Word, and teaching the Bible at Graceway Baptist Church. It was his great privilege to minister at the Bible Broadcasting Network for 24 years, sharing his Savior with people all over the world. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren whom they affectionately called “Papa”. He loved his daughters-in-law: Kim and Jordan and son-in-law Christopher Nicholas, like his own children.
