Shelby Auten Cox went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. at Harvest Community Church in Concord. Pastor Jeff Burris and Pastor Zach Burris will be officiating the service and the visitation will be held from 1- 3 p.m. prior to the funeral. A private family burial will follow at Cold Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Concord. "Shelby Jean" was born in Concord, March 14th, 1937 to the late Horace Auten and the lateVirginia Auten Nance. Shelby was also preceded in death by her step-father, Jim Nance and her brothers, Don, Bob and Jerry Auten. She attended Mt. Pleasant High School where she was an all-conference basketball player. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Shelby was an active member of Harvest Community Church as long as her health allowed. She also loved to cook and travel. Shelby is survived by her devoted husband, Kendred A. Cox of 59 years and daughter, Judy Burris and husband, Jeff, of Kannapolis; and grandchildren, Zach Burris and wife Shannon, of Marshfield, Wl. and Meredith Burris, of Kannapolis; great grandchildren, Levi and Miles Burris; and sisters, Shirley Lyerly and husband, Harvey and Joyce Howell, both of Concord; and many specials nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer a special thank you to family, friends and devoted care takers who lovingly cared for Shelby in her time of need.
