Shelby Huneycutt

Shelby Jean Mullis Huneycutt, 77 years of age, of Harrisburg, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Shelby was born October 9, 1936 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina to the late Joseph Elisha Mullis and Connie Beatrice Smith Mullis .
She was also preceded in death by brother, James Mullis and sisters, Jean Stegall Simmons, Betty Hatley, Willie Freeman and Ruby Broome.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00 am at Freedom Baptist Church, 20015 Coley Store Rd., Locust, officiated by Rev. Wally Gilmer, Rev. Gerald Baucom and Rev. Betty Jo Blackmon. Burial will follow the funeral service in the church cemetery at 20015 Coley Store Rd., Locust.

Survivors include daughter, Annette Eagle of Kannapolis; son, Glenn (Jackie) Huneycutt of Locust; son, Rodney (Karen) Huneycutt of Oakboro; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Shelby was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was a very devout Christian lady. She loved gospel music and played the piano and organ at church for many years for weddings , funerals and special events. Her love of music and her beautiful alto voice led her to become a member of the church's Freedom Gospel Singers.. Shelby worked at Blaine Hosiery Mill in Locust, Pike's Drug Store and Boomer's Restaurant and helped with the Cub Scout program in the area for many years.

Memorials may be made to Shelby Huneycutt Memorial Fund, c/o Hartsell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 100, Midland, NC 28107.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale formerly Concord Place Assisted Living, The Oaks at Town Center in Harrisburg and Tucker Hospice House for the care given to Shelby during her stay at each place.
