Shelby Jean Dulin Measmer Childress, 85, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at PruittHealth-Town Center in Harrisburg, North Carolina.
Shelby was born on June 21, 1938, in the Roberta Mill area of Cabarrus County to the late Spencer Dulin and Laura Bell Smith Dulin. She lived in the Roberta Mill area until age 7 when her father purchased their family farm in Concord. She attended Harrisburg School and her favorite memory was being part of the basketball team. She was also preceded in death by her husbands Billy (Bob) Lee Measmer and Carl Childress Jr; son-in-law Darrell Barrier; great-granddaughter Everly Garafolo.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Roberta Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord.
Survivors include her children Billie Measmer Barrier of Concord, Rex (Molly) Measmer of Concord, Bobby (Sharon) Measmer of Concord, and Jennifer (Adam) Measmer Hill of Concord. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amber (Shane) Barrier Craig of Mount Olive, NC, Wendy (Rob) Measmer Garafolo of Charlotte, Jason (Chandra) Barrier of Concord, Bobby (Aniela) Measmer of Concord, Christopher Measmer of Concord, Kendra (Alex) Measmer Dums of Mount Pleasant, Rebecca and Jacob Hill of Concord. Her great grandchildren Zachary and Kayley Craig of Mount Olive, Charis, Liora and Rhett Garafolo of Charlotte, Madison and Isabella of Concord, Cecilia and Brody Measmer of Concord, and Fisher, Kase and Archie “Ellis” Dums of Concord.
Shelby was employed by Kayser-Roth, Mr C’s, Showmars, and FunTees. The job she loved the most was being employed by her son Rex at Wayside Family Restaurant. She worked at the Oakboro location for 8 years, until she moved to the Church Street, Concord location in October of 2000. Over her years she made many homemade biscuits, gallons of chicken salad and many other homemade dishes.
Shelby’s love for her family was one of her trademarks. She was an excellent cook and homemaker. Shelby was strong, and resilient which was displayed by her life.
