Sheila Eileen Mahaffey, 59, of Concord, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Martha Edna Smith of Alexander County and Major Greene Mahaffey of Wibur, Washington. Sheila is survived by her husband, Barry Sherlock, her sister Janice Mahaffey of Concord, and her beloved constant companions, her cats; Taylor, Blackie, Tiger, Fluffy, Mama and Baby. Sheila graduated in 1972 from Northwest Cabarrus High School and continued her education at Rowan Technical College. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant in the Electrical Engineering Department at UNCC for over 27 years. A true joy in Sheila’s life was the Piedmont Choral Society. She was a longstanding member of the group. Her faithfulness and devotion to the choir was unparalleled, even as her illness progressed. She was a member of West Concord Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29 at 3:00 pm at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 301 Mt. Olivet Road, Concord. Rev. Wes Judy and Rev. Mike Farley will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service. Sheila possessed a beautiful spirit, with an unwavering strength, sense of optimism and hope. She was a determined fighter who never gave up, and is a true inspiration to others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
