Sherry Diane Phillips McComas, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital-Matthews, after a long struggle with Lupus. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Thursday, June 14 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15 at 2:00 PM, at Christ Episcopal Church, Albemarle, officiated by Father James Bernacki. Burial will follow in the Stanly Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the burial. At other times, the family will meet at her home Mrs. McComas was born in Charleston, WV on September 22, 1954, to the late Denzel Phillips and the late Thelma Browning Phillips. She is also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Phillips. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Charles Lee McComas; one son, Ryan Wilmoth of Albemarle and one daughter, Melinda McIntyre of Albemarle; two sisters, Sue Adkins of Conway, SC and Brenda Hill of Campbells Creek, WV; three grandchildren, Victoria Wilmoth, Jalen McIntyre and Kirsten Wilmoth and her mother Jennifer Steiger; and honorary granddaughter, Ashlyn Steiger. Sherry worked in numerous positions in the health care industry, including Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, Charleston, WV and Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America-Piedmont Chapter, 4530 Park Road, Ste 302, Charlotte, NC 28209.
