Shirley Starnes

Shirley Anne Garmon Starnes, 75, of Concord, NC, went to rest in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Oct. 12th, 2021.

She was born February 4, 1946, daughter of Louise Virginia Garmon and James Henry Garmon.  She was a devoted Mom, loving Sister, and the proudest Grandma of her four grandchildren.

Shirley, like many others in the area, spent her days working hard at Cannon Mills.  She was a true Concord gal who loved Sun-drop and sweet tea. She never met a cat she didn’t like, and had several as pets throughout her life.  She was loved by many for her silly sense of humor and her quick wit.  Shirley had unique talents like writing upside-down and backwards, which she would often write full letters to her brother like this. She loved to sing, even if off-key, to old gospel hymns and anything by Dolly Parton.

She is survived by daughter Rhonda Granja (Carl); grandsons, Michael Trivette, Karsten Granja, and Keaton Granja; granddaughter, Marcie Trivette; brother, Mickey Garmon (Kay); sisters, Betty Ward (Junior) and Janice Trivette; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend many thanks to the caretakers at Five Oaks Manor for their support over the past two years.

A private family wake will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 15th at 3:00PM.
