Shirley Farmer

Shirley Rose Farmer, 83, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2019 with family by her side.

Shirley was born September 11, 1935 in Mountain City, TN to the late Abraham Lincoln Hodge and the late Clara Snyder Hodge.  She was also preceded in death by husband, Hubert Hugh Farmer; son, Joseph Hubert Farmer; three sisters, Faye Hodge, Venia Hodge and Pauline Morris; and three brothers, Lester, Sam and Garfield Hodge.

Shirley enjoyed working in her yard, watching birds, listening to gospel music, trips to the mountains, but most of all, spending time with her family.  She was a loving mother and grandmother.  The grandkids were Shirley's pride and joy.

Survivors include daughter, Mary Alice Jenkins of Mountain City, TN; son, Robert Lester Hackney, and wife, Pamela of Concord, NC; son, Jack Earl Hackney and wife, Melissa, of Mountain City, TN; daughter, Katherine Louise Powell of TN; daughter, Tammy Farmer of Concord, NC; sister, Bess Hagy of Bluff City, TN; nine grandchildren, Amanda and Holly Rhymer, Jessica Thompson, Katherine Brooke Powell, Kyle Franklin, Seth and Dallas Blackwelder, Dawn Almond and Juline Hughes; nine great-grandchildren, Marley Snyder and B.J. Barlow, Jeremiah and Teagan Thompson, Peyton Almond, Chloe Stancil, Waylon and Izzie Ford and Levi Hughes; and one great-great granddaughter, Elyza Kaie Stancil; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Hartsell Funeral Home's Concord Chapel, officiated by Rev. Michael Greer.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home, 11:00 am - 11:45 am.  Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
