Shirley Houston Polk, 78 years of age, of Midland, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at her home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Polk was born June 10, 1937 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina to the late George Clinton Houston and Louise Houston.
She was also preceded in death by brother, Buddy Houston.
The family will receive friends onThursday, April 14, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church Legacy Campus, 420 Hopewell Church Rd., Monroe. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Hopewell Baptist Church Legacy Campus officiated by Rev. Brian Austin and Rev. Dr. Lee Pigg. Burial will follow in the church cemetery at 420 Hopewell Church Rd., Monroe.
Survivors include husband of 55 years, Hobson Russell "H. R." Polk of Midland; children, Lynne Kessler and husband James of Midland, Russell Polk and wife Loretta of Midland, and Tonya Moore of Charlotte; brothers, Bill and Gary Houston of Charlotte, Ray Houston (Pat) of Oakboro; sisters, Barbara Watkins of Monroe and Carol Houston of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Ashley Lentz of Charelston, SC, Cayley Lentz of Charlotte, and Ashley Kessler of High Point; and great-grandchild, Layla Hatfield.
