Shirley Williams

Ms. Shirley Elizabeth Williams of Albemarle, North Carolina passed away peacefully at Carolinas ContinueCARE Hospital in Pineville on January 12, 2023 at the age of 83.

Ms. Williams was born on May 11, 1939 in Union County, North Carolina and was the fifth child of Robert Fitzhugh Williams and Carrie Drye Williams.

She was educated in the Stanly County School System and graduated from Albemarle Senior High School in 1959.  She was a lifelong resident of Albemarle, a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church, and was most recently employed in an administrative post at Stanly County Memorial Hospital (now known as Atrium Health Stanly).  Following her retirement, she kept busy by gardening, making floral arrangements, and by remaining involved with the care of family members and participating in various family-related endeavors.  She also enjoyed visiting the Western North Carolina mountains and continued to do so periodically for as long as her health permitted.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Williams was preceded in death by her sisters Connie Suzanne Gilbert, Patsy Louise Howell, Gwendolyn Virginia Williams, and Wanda Gail Hathcock, and by her brother James Fred Williams.

She is survived by her sisters Marie Williams Boger of Albemarle, Linda Kay Spear of Charlotte, and Mable Jean Lowder of Elmwood, Tennessee, and by a brother Kenneth Wayne Williams of Albemarle.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm, Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Adam Hatley. Burial will follow at the Fairview Memorial Park at 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle.

Memorial donations may be given to West Albemarle Baptist Church or to another charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
