Steve Brooks

Steve Wayne Brooks, 68 years of age, of Monroe, passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center.

Steve was born May 21, 1948 in Union County to the late John Vann Brooks and the late Doris Octavia Brooks. He was also preceded in death by son, David Wayne Brooks; and brothers, Edward Wilson Brooks, and James Michael Brooks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home, 13575 Broadway Avenue, Midland. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. George Hunnicutt, will be at 1pm, Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Mill Creek Baptist Church, 5417 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe. Burial will follow in the Longs Grove Advent Christian Church cemetery with full military rites being conducted by American Legion Post 440 and the NC National Guard Honor Guard.

Survivors include wife, Wanda Nash Brooks of Monroe; daughter, Amanda (Marc) Mullis of Monroe; two step-daughters, Leigha Jordan of Greensboro, and DeeDee (George Rodriguez) Jordan of Mint Hill; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Lauren, Chase and Lanie Mullis, Reagan Allen, and Savannah and Alec Shepler; and sister Paula Sue (Jack) Beu of Moyock, NC.

Steve proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ganzon and all nurses and techs that cared for Steve while he was in the hospital.
