Steve Gantt, Sr

September 26, 1939 — October 31, 2014

Steve "Punk" Gantt Sr., 75 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

Punk was born September 26, 1939 in Winston Salem and lived in Albemarle his whole life. His parents were the late Grover Lindley Gantt and Lucille Morgan Gantt. He was also preceded in death by wife, Janice Westerlund Gantt; and daughter, Elizabeth Dee Gantt.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 2, 2014 at First Assembly of God, 1501 24/27 Bypass West, Albemarle, NC. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Bob Gruver will follow at 3:00 PM at First Assembly of God.

He is survived by daughter, Melinda Rummage of Albemarle; sons, Steve Gantt, Jr. of Rock Hill, SC, and Jonathan Wes Gantt of Prosperity, SC; seven grandchildren, one great grandchild; two brothers, Skip M. Gantt of Charlotte and Jim Gantt of Albemarle.

Punk attended Albemarle High School and played football for the bulldogs under Coach Toby Webb and was awarded a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina and played on the Gamecock's football team. He later attended Pfeiffer University where he graduated. Punk was very active in Stanly County serving in the past, with his wife, on the board of the A.R.C and was instrumental in helping establish and strengthen the organization in the area. He was currently serving on the board of the Pregnancy Resource Center. His work career led him to work at Alcoa were he was a dispatch operator. In later years, he attended pottery classes and received a degree from Montgomery Community College. This led him to become a established potter for over 15 years where his pottery was sold at a gallery located in Seagrove NC. Steve was a member of First Assembly of God in Albemarle and was very active as a member of the choir and taught Sunday School. He attended a Bible study every Wednesday at the local YMCA. Steve was a very Godly man and was a hero and loved very much by his family and friends.
