Steve Smith

Steve Edward Smith, 62, of Concord, NC, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011, at his home. Mr. Smith was born May 22, 1949, in Cabarrus County. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Edward Smith, and his mother, Virginia Geraldine Gibson Smith. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Monday, June 27, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at Friendship Southern Baptist Church, 180 West Avenue, Concord, NC 28027, officiated by Rev. Terry Smith and Rev. Don Lisk. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. At other times, the family will meet at his home, 2619 Harp Drive SW, Concord, NC 28027. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Kathy Shoe Smith; sons, Stephen Wayne Smith and wife, Paige, of Charlotte and Jeffery Smith and wife, Penny, of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Marti Fredell and husband, Paul, of Concord; grandchildren, Stephen Smith, Jr., Matthew Smith, Nicholas Smith, Magan Smith, Amanda Fredell, and Tanner Fredell; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Elizabeth; brother, Lloyd “Butch” Smith of Kannapolis; and sister, Deborah Penninger, of Concord. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
