Sue Mahaley Sasser

Sue Mahaley Sasser, 84, of Harrisburg, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Sue was born July 11, 1940 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late John Lewis Mahaley, III and the late Frances Stella Callahan Mahaley. She was also preceded in death by grandson, Jason Thomas.

Sue was an account executive for McPhail Bray Murphy & Allen, and later retired from Cameron Harris Insurance (Wachovia). She was past President of the United Methodist Women and also the NC Association of Insurance Women. Sue had a passion for the homeless. She was an avid thrift shopper and enjoyed collecting. Sue also loved traveling with Bill and church groups. Sue was a breast and lung cancer survivor. Friends and family will remember Sue's independent spirit. Most of all, Sue was a loving wife, mother and Grandmama Sue (Miss Sue). 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. Sue's Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Rody Carland. 

Survivors include her beloved husband of 15 years, Bill R. Sasser; daughter, Karen (Joey) Brown of Murrells Inlet, SC; son, Chris (Maureen) Thomas of St. Louis, MO; brother, Ron Mahaley of Mars Hill, NC; four grandchildren, Ryan, Jake and Alex Brown, and Rebecca Thomas; stepchildren, Paul (Nita) Sasser and Stacey (TC) Tatum; step-grandchildren, Gidd, Jami, and Thad Sasser, and Sydney and Samuel Tatum; niece, Deborah Mahaley; and nephews, Ken and Matt Mahaley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tucker Hospice House, Pancreatic Cancer, Breast Cancer, or The Room in the Inn at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.
