Susan Francesco Aldridge Lipscomb, beloved wife, mother, and friend passed away on September 29, 2017, at her home in Uwharrie Point, New London, North Carolina, where she was surrounded by her family and friends.

Mrs. Lipscomb was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Joseph Francesco and Muriel Mendel Francesco. She is survived by her husband, John Gunnar Lipscomb; son, Geoffrey Francesco Greene of Atlanta; daughter, Sara Fleming Greene of Charlotte, North Carolina; five grand children- Luke Alexander Hopkins, Corbin John Hopkins, Elizabeth Carlton Lipscomb, Sarah Kathryn Lipscomb, London Elizabeth Hopkins; brother, Albert Charles Francesco and his wife, Fran, of Maywood, New Jersey; four nephews- Albert Joseph Francesco, Michael Francis Francesco, James Charles Francesco, and Joseph Albert Francesco; and eight great nieces and nephews- Marissa Lynn, Joseph Albert, Jennifer Nicole, Branden James, Gianna Grace, Olivia Hope, Santino Joseph, Stella Marie, of New Jersey.

Mrs. Lipscomb was born August 3, 1949, in Jersey City, New Jersey. She received a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Speech Pathology from Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey. After relocating to Lancaster, South Carolina, she was employed by the Lancaster County School District as a speech pathologist.

Her life’s loyalties were built around her children, friends, and community, so naturally, her contributions to society were structured around the fabric of these areas of her life. She was an asset in any capacity in which she was called upon to serve. She was particularly involved in her children’s activities and any endeavors to further the welfare of other children. Her daily commitment to the youth of Lancaster was evident in her love of the young students she mentored as a speech pathologist. She also played an active role in The Lancaster County Literacy Council and the Lancaster County Council of the Arts. She was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Forest Hills Swim Club while serving as an officer of the PTA for numerous years. She was a devoted member of the vestry of Christ Episcopal Church in Lancaster, South Carolina. After retirement, she continued to assist at The Adult Education School encouraging many at-risk students to strive towards graduation.

Socially, Susan was an exuberant asset to her community. A superb athlete, she exercised daily, participated in Ladies Recreational Tennis competitions, assisted with Lancaster Swim Team Duties, and served as past president of the 20th Century Study Club in Lancaster. She was also a member of the Uwharrie Point Study Club.

Mrs Lipscomb’s dynamic life and the impact she had upon her husband, her children, grandchildren, friends, and the many others she has influenced are her everlasting legacy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, the 3rd of October at 1:00 p.m. at the Old North State Club, 201 Old North State Club Lane, New London, NC.
