Susan Glynn Price
Loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and leading nonprofit advocate

Susan Glynn Price passed away suddenly on March 14, 2015, in Concord, North Carolina at the age of 64. A leading advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Susan was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt with strong New Jersey roots, who devoted her life to caring for her family and friends.

A viewing will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, followed by a service at 7:00 PM led by Reverend Johnny Presley.

The daughter of John and Helen Glynn, Susan was born in Bloomfield, New Jersey, on November 27, 1950. A graduate of Bloomfield High School, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Upsala College. Sue began her career as a merchandiser for Meldisco and Uniweave Corporation, where she met her future husband, Larry Price. Married for 38 years, her first child, Erin Kathleen, was born in New Jersey before the family moved to North Carolina, where her son, Matthew Ryan, was born and raised. Together, the family developed strong roots in their new community where Sue was an active participant in her children’s lives.

A voracious reader and a world-class cook, Sue gained a reputation as a strong, passionate voice while working with Meals on Wheels and, most recently, as Executive Director of the ARC. After a few months of retirement, Sue was drawn back into the nonprofit world by accepting a position with the Carrabus County Group Homes. She was tireless in her efforts to support and represent the clients she served, and her loss impacts the community both professionally and personally. In recognition of her commitment and leadership, Sue was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Concord-Cabarrus Business and Professional Women’s Club “Woman of the Year” award and The ARC of North Carolina “Unsung Hero Award.”

To her family and friends, Sue will always be remembered for her culinary talents. The keeper of the Markiewicz/Glynn holiday traditions, very few were allowed in her kitchen while she whipped up the most amazing Thanksgiving dinners, summer barbeques and annual Price family Crabfest. Her house was always “home” for family friends where she was known as Mom by all.

Sue is survived by her beloved husband Larry, cherished children Erin (husband Russ) Mayer and Matthew (fiancee Kate); brother Joseph; loving sisters-in-law Carolyn Glynn and Michelle Fox; brother-in-law Dean Fox; adored niece and nephews Courtney Dunithan, Michael Glynn and Colin Fox. She was predeceased by her parents John and Helen Glynn, and her brother William John Glynn. Sue is also missed deeply by her extended family, including her cousins and life-long friend Terry Murphy.

In memory of our amazing, loving and deeply loyal Sue, donations may be made in her name to the Cabarrus County Group Homes or a charity of your choice.
