Mrs. Sylvia Parker Lowder, 83 of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020, at her home.
Born in Wadesboro, NC on July 17, 1937, Sylvia was the wife of the late Ben B. Lowder, Sr. and the daughter of the late Marion George Parker and Helen Sellers Parker.
She graduated from Wadesboro High School and Central Piedmont Community College and worked as a graphic designer in the printing industry for many years. She later earned her real estate license and worked for Allen Tate Realtors till her retirement. When Sylvia married, she joined Allen Street Baptist Church, which became Shamrock Drive Baptist and later Grace Crossing Baptist; she sang in the choir and served as a Sunday School teacher and youth leader. Sylvia was an accomplished artist, who loved gardening and was extremely creative, enjoyed many artistic endeavors. Sylvia was also an avid UNCC 49ers Basketball fan with season tickets for 30 years. Mrs. Lowder was very active in various civic and charitable organizations, including Cabarrus Senior Games, Anson County Arts Council and Anson County Historical Society, Friends of Harrisburg Library and Harrisburg 4th of July Celebration.
Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Lowder is survived by her sister Ann Parker (Thomas S) Taylor and children Benita (Victor) Conrad of Harrisburg, Ben (Carol) Lowder, Jr. of Charlotte and Eric Parker Lowder of Harrisburg; many nephew and nieces, her grandchildren Jennifer (Kevin) Caldwell, Marshall (Brittany) Conrad, Brian (Leah) Conrad, Carley Conrad, Simeon Conrad, BJ (Mandy) Rappe, and Christopher (Erica) Rappe and seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Parker, Warren, Emmett, Landon, Charlotte, and Brandon.
At the request of Mrs. Lowder, her body was donated to Wake Forest Medical School for research. A virtual memorial service will be held on January 9, 2021 at 11:00 am through the website of Grace Crossing Baptist Fellowship http://www.gracecrossingcharlotte.org
Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers and may be made to Grace Crossing Baptist Church, Taylor Memorial Baptist Church, or Hospice of Cabarrus County.
