Sylvia Mclaughlin

Sylvia Celine McLaughlin, 83, of Concord, formerly of Bethlehem, PA, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022.

Sylvia was born on December 12, 1938, in Ranshaw, PA, to the late Sophie (Konetski) and Thomas Bogdan.  Sylvia was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Joseph McLaughlin, and her sister, Celesta Hoffert.

Sylvia loved family and community, having served as the Planning Commission Clerk for Hanover Township for 30 years.  She also served as Majority Inspector at the voting polls and was previously employed with Nationwide Insurance.  She was her sons' biggest fan, supported them in all of their endeavors like youth and college sports, band performances, and school activities. She continued that support for her grandsons, coming to NC for many of their events.  She and Joe loved to travel and filled several photo albums with memories from their trips.  After living in Bethlehem for 58 years, she moved to the Taylor Glen Baptist Retirement Community in Concord, NC, where she spent 3 most enjoyable years.  She loved her Taylor Glen family and the many activities she shared with them.  She was usually the first to sign up for their outings and had standing domino and card games with various residents throughout each week.  She also found ways to help the community in Concord, reading to elementary school children and even becoming an extra Grandma to a special family from her Church.  She was a wonderful Mom, Grandma, and Friend to many, and wanted to let all of you know that she loved you and appreciated being a part of your lives.

Survivors include son, Thomas (Darlene) McLaughlin of Mint Hill, NC; son, David (Lisa) McLaughlin of Harrisburg, NC; and four grandsons, Brady (Alexandria), Michael, Kevin, and Ryan McLaughlin.

The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 28, 2022, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Concord, NC, officiated by Rev. Jerome Chavarria.  The service will be webcast by the church at the following link for those who are unable to attend. https://youtu.be/N3Haz089w9w The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Sylvia will be laid to rest at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem, PA, at a later date.
