Thomas Jackson Blackwelder, Jr., 91, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Universal Healthcare in Concord.
Thomas was born August 18, 1925 in Cabarrus County to the late Thomas Jackson Blackwelder, Sr. and the late Sara Shehan Blackwelder. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Odessa West Blackwelder, in 1999; and sister, Rosalee Little.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, with military honors conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Edwards of Concord; grandsons, Scott Carroll and fiancée, Jennifer Brecht of Concord and Jamie Carroll and fiancée, Kristi White of Mt. Pleasant; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Thomas honorably served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, and retired from Cannon Mills as a mechanic. He was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter 27, American Legion Post 51, and the Concord VFW.
