Thomas Helms

Thomas Martin Helms, 79, of Monroe, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center in Matthews.

Mr. Helms was born February 23, 1940 in North Carolina to the late Martin Lucrene Helms and Seena Adeline Helms.

He was also preceded in death by son Thomas Martin Helms II; brother Joseph Helms; sisters, Rachel McGee, Mary Helms and Carolyn Purser.

Thomas was a retired Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force. Following retirement from the  A.F. he went on to do other things, including being a school teacher in Rockbridge County and  Alleghany County, VA.  He was also a retired minister for the Appalachian Advent Christian General Conference.  Thomas also liked the Atlanta Braves, Miami Dolphins, and his cats, Matilda Jean and Minnie Pearl.

Survivors include; wife, Jonelle Jones Helms; son, Charles Wayne(Kerry) Helms; daughter, Karla Jo (Troy) Malcom; daughter in law, Lisa S. Helms; brother, Jack Helms, sisters, Margaret Helms, Patricia Jenkins,Martha Helms, and Rebecca Jacobs; grandchildren, Brett Andrew Helms, Tyler VannMartin Helms, Collin Ray Helms, Autumn Bryanne Helms, Charles Edward (CJ) Simmons, Luken Skyler Simmons and Jacob Shea Simmons.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019, 6:00 p.m., at Long's Grove Advent Christian Church, 8514 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110.

Memorials may be made to The American Legion Post 440 where he was a member in New Salem,  also to the Advent Christian General Conference.
