Thomas Rogers, Jr.

Thomas Albert Rogers Jr., 85, of Oakboro, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020.

Thomas was born August 26, 1934 in Warsaw, North Carolina to the late Thomas Albert Rogers Sr. and the late Dorcus Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Bertha Thompson Rogers of 58 years.

Mr. Rogers was a true Tar Heel fan graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1957. He served in education for 34 years and 17 years as principal at West Stanly High School. He will forever be remembered as a remarkable father, papa, coach, and teacher. He loved West Stanly High School, the students, faculty and staff. Those that knew him will always remember him fondly in giving the three-finger West Stanly sign.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM -11:45 AM, Thursday, August 20, 2020, at First Baptist Church of Oakboro fellowship hall. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM  officiated by Pastor Jonathan Waits. Burial will follow at Oakboro Cemetery at 1397 North Main Street, Oakboro.

Survivors include daughter, Beverly Thomas (Bobby) of Marshville, NC; son, Thomas Albert Rogers, III of Oakboro, NC; grandchildren, Tyler Westall (Jordyn) of Zebulon, NC, Brittany Marshall (T.J.) of Monroe, NC, Alyssa Thomas of Marshville, NC; and great-granddaughter, Aria Faith Marshall.
