Thurman Howell

Thurman Howell, 87, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Atrium Health Stanly in Albemarle.

Thurman was born December 19, 1933 in Stanly County to the late Oscar Clarence Howell and the late Cora Ingold Howell.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Earnest Howell, J.P. Howell, Cliff Howell, Ray Howell and Grady Howell; and sisters, Victoria Hinson, and Jennette Harward.

Following his retirement, Thurman enjoyed spending time with family and friends and tending to his animals and farm.  He was also very active in Poplins' Grove Baptist Church serving as a Deacon for many years.

Thurman will Lie In State from 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM,  Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home, 522 North 2nd St. Albemarle, NC 28001. The funeral service officiated by Pastor Terry Burris will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 27, 2021 at Poplin Grove Baptist Church, preceded by a 30 minute Lie In State.  Burial will follow at the Poplin Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 220 Poplins Grove Church Road, Albemarle. Social distancing is requested by the family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Smith Howell of Albemarle; son, Thurman Chad (Vivienne Gebrael) Howell of Charlotte; and sister, Margie Forrest.
