Tommy Eugene "Gene" Smith, 59 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at his home. Gene was born June 16, 1954 in Stanly County to the late Robert Elwood Smith and Etta Maefield Smith. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service officiated by Roger S. Thomas will be on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 11:00am in the Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle. Burial will follow at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 24390 NC 138, Albemarle, NC. In addition to his mother,he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pam Wood Smith of Albemarle; sons, Kenneth Eugene Smith of Kannapolis and Timothy James Smith of Albemarle; daughter, Misty Honbarrier and husband Troy of New London; sister, Irma Hedrick and husband Mark of Palestine; brothers, Darrell Smith and wife Cathy of Palestine and Dale Smith and wife Angie of Aquadale; and five grandsons.
