Tomoko Swan, 84, of Concord, NC, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at her residence.

Tomoko was born January 3, 1937 in Tokyo, Japan, to the late Kichiji and Masako Tajima.

A celebration of life will be held at Westford United Methodist Church in Concord, NC on August 7th at 2PM, officiated by Rev. Jeffrey Rushing.  Tomoko will be interred at Salisbury National Cemetery on September 21, 2021 in a private ceremony.

Survivors include husband, Robert Clark Swan of Concord, NC, sons, Andrew Ichiro (Melanie) Swan of Monroe, NC and Richard Kichiji (Michelle) Swan of Murrieta, CA, grandsons Cameron, Jacob and Christopher Swan, and siblings, Kyoko, Koichiro, Ako, and Sachan of Japan.

Tomoko was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother (“obachan”).  When Tomoko was 29, she met her husband at the Post Exchange in Japan…after 55 years of marriage, Bob and Tomoko held true to the PX’s “No Return Policy”.  Her “stick-to-it-ness” attitude was evident from the beginning.  She lived a full life filled with family, travel and adventure.  She lived in or visited over 40 countries, never turned down a strange meal or backed away from any challenge.  If there was water involved, she had to touch it or step into it.  She always greeted you with a smile and waved good-bye until you were out of sight.  And on her final day, she had “stick-to-it-ness” as she held on until we could all be together.  She was surrounded by her family as she peacefully transitioned from this world to her heavenly Father’s world.  When she closed her eyes for the last time with a smile on her face, she then opened them and was greeted with the open arms of her Savior, Jesus.  No longer a broken body, but a new body in Christ.  We love you and will miss you but we know we will see you again.  Until then, save us a place at the table.  “See you later alligator…after while crocodile.”

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative care of Charlotte.
