Vance Whitley

Vance Clyde Whitley, age 78, of Oakboro, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 at CMC-NE. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Wayne Bennett with a 30 minute state. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Mr. Whitley was born in Stanly County on March 10, 1933 to the late Alonzo Whitley and the late Mary Eudy Whitley. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Jean Barbee Whitley, of the home; sons, Eddie Whitley and wife Starla of Oakboro, Chuck Whitley and wife Karyn of Albemarle; grandchildren, Cade Whitley and Tess Whitley; sisters, Bessie Hill of Albemarle, Carolyn Furr and Lynda Almond, both of Locust. Memorials may be made to the Mature Adults Club, c/o Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 17236 Frog Pond Road, Oakboro, NC 28129. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Whitley family.
